Step by Step Guide to Configure Slack as an OAuth Server

If you want to login to your WordPress site using your Slack username and password, you can simply do it using our WP OAuth Client plugin. Once you configure the Slack with WordPress plugin, you can login to your WordPress site using Slack credentials. This plugin also allows you to map your WordPress account different roles based on your slack attributes/groups. Please follow the steps given below to configure your Slack account with WordPress and setup the Single Sign On.

Guide to configure Slack with WordPress :

  1. Go to https://api.slack.com/apps and log into your Slack account.
  1. You will be presented with following screen. Click on Create new App.

  2. You will be shown a form where you have to enter Application Name and Development Slack Workspace. Fill the form with appropriate information and click on Create App.

  1. After creating the slack application, you will be brought to Application Management page. Scroll down to “App Credentials” section. Here you will find given Client ID and Client Secret for your slack application.

  2. Copy these credentials in MO OAuth Plugin configuration on corresponding fields.
  3. Go to OAuth & Permissions

    1. In slack application’s Redirect URLs section, Click on Add New Redirect URL and enter the same from the MO OAuth Client. Click on Save URLs.

    2. Scroll Down to Scopes section and add necessary scopes like so and then click on Save Changes:

      NOTE: These scopes must be same on the MO OAuth Application Configuration page. You have successfully completed your Slack App configurations.

Slack Endpoints and Scope:

Client ID :  from the step 4 above
Client Secret :  from the step 4 above
Scope:  users.profile:read
Authorize Endpoint: https://slack.com/oauth/authorize
Access Token Endpoint: https://slack.com/api/oauth.access
Get User Info Endpoint: https://slack.com/api/users.profile.get
