Passwordless authentication allows users to log in without the need of remembering a password. Instead of conventional username and password, users enter their mobile phone number or email address and receive a one-time code (one time password) or link on their phone number or their email address, which they can then use to log in.

Steps to Configure Microsoft Authenticator 2FA method for your Joomla site
1. Install miniOrange 2-Factor authentication (2FA/MFA) Plugin
- Download the zip file for the miniOrange Two-Factor Authentication plugin for Joomla from the link here.
- Now go to the System -> under Install section -> click on Extensions and upload the downloaded zip file of the plugin in the Upload Package File option.
- Once the zip file is uploaded go to Components menu -> miniOrange Two Factor Authentication -> Account Setup.
- You can login with your miniOrange credentials here. If you have not purchased the license you can also click on Activate free trial below to login and test the premium features of the plugin.
- Download the zip file for the miniOrange 2-Factor authenticationient plugin for Joomla from the link here.
- On your Joomla admin console go to Extensions Manage Install
- Under Upload Package File tab. Drag the downloaded file OR upload file by click on browse for file
- Go to Components miniorange Two Factor authentication Acount Setup
- You can login with your miniOrange credentials here. If you have not purchased the license you can also click on Activate free trial below to login and test the premium features of the plugin.
2. Test Microsoft Authenticator 2FA method
- First go to the Login Settings tab. Enable the “Enforce Two Factor Authentication” option and select the desired option in “Enable for” described below :-
End users only- If you want to invoke TFA for the group of end users (registered, publisher, editor, etc).
Admin- If you want to invoke TFA for the group of Administrators and superusers.
3. Select specific authentication methods for users
- Select Microsoft Authenticator method. then click on Save Setting Button.
- Now download and install the Microsoft Authenticator App. Then Scan QR code or use Secret Code . Then enter the Passcode generated by Microsoft Authenticator, then click on Verify button.
- You have successfully set up Microsoft Authenticator as your second factor authentication method.
