Guide:- Set up Security Question (KBA) for Two Factor authentication for Joomla (2FA/MFA)


Setup Security Questions 2FA method with Joomla 2FAplugin. This guide will help you to configure Security Questions as Two Factor Authentication ( 2FA ) method for your Joomla site. The Joomla 2FA plugin will add a second layer of authentication to your Joomla account to increase the security of your site from unwanted hacks and unauthorized login attempts.

Passwordless Authentication :-

Passwordless authentication allows users to log in without the need of remembering a password. Instead of conventional username and password, users enter their mobile phone number or email address and receive a one-time code (one time password) or link on their phone number or their email address, which they can then use to log in.

Steps to Configure Security Questions 2FA method for your Joomla site


1. Install miniOrange 2-Factor authentication (2FA/MFA) Plugin


  • Download the zip file for the miniOrange Two-Factor Authentication plugin for Joomla from the link here.
  • Now go to the System -> under Install section -> click on Extensions and upload the downloaded zip file of the plugin in the Upload Package File option.

  • Once the zip file is uploaded go to Components menu -> miniOrange Two Factor Authentication -> Account Setup.

  • You can login with your miniOrange credentials here. If you have not purchased the license you can also click on Activate free trial below to login and test the premium features of the plugin.

  • Download the zip file for the miniOrange 2-Factor authenticationient plugin for Joomla from the link here.
  • On your Joomla admin console go to Extensions Manage Install
  • 2FA (2 Factor Authentication / MFA) for Joomla
  • Under Upload Package File tab. Drag the downloaded file OR upload file by click on browse for file
  • Joomla 2FA upload Plugin file
  • Go to Components miniorange Two Factor authentication Acount Setup
  • Joomla 2FA enable new Plugin
  • You can login with your miniOrange credentials here. If you have not purchased the license you can also click on Activate free trial below to login and test the premium features of the plugin.

2. Test Security Questions 2FA method

  • Click on Test button of Security Question as 2-Factor Authentication.
  • Joomla 2 Factor authentication (2FA) (MFA) with Security Questions (knowledge_based_authentication KBA method),
  • Select the questions and write answer of that question then click on Verify button.
  • Joomla 2 Factor authentication (2FA) (MFA) with Security Questions (knowledge_based_authentication KBA method),
  • Test Successful.
  • Joomla 2 Factor authentication (2FA) (MFA) with Security Questions (knowledge_based_authentication KBA method),
  • Now that the Joomla 2FA Plugin has been properly tested, you may enable 2FA and inline registration for your end users by going to the login settings tab as shown below.
  • Joomla 2 Factor authentication (2FA) (MFA) with Microsoft Authenticator,
  • Now you have Successfully configured the Joomla 2FA plugin.
