How to set up LMS 2-Factor Authentication?
One of the popular authentication methods to secure a user’s account is through using the Google Authenticator as the two-factor for LMS. Let's get started with LMS 2-Factor authentication setup to make the user's account more secure.
Installation for LMS 2-Factor Authentication(2FA) plugin.
- Log into your WordPress instance as an admin.
- Go to the WordPress Dashboard → Plugins and click on Add New.
- Search for 2FA LearnDash LMS WordPress plugin and click on Install Now.
- Once installed click on Activate.
Google Authenticator as 2-factor for WordPress LMS:
Follow these Steps to setup Google Authenticator as 2 factor for WordPress LMS:
- Click on the LMS 2-factor plugin visible in the menu to the left.
- Here, you can see the Authentication methods available in the free version of the LMS 2-factor plugin. Click on the Configure button underneath the Google Authenticator title.
At the Configuration Page:
- Click on the provided link to install the Google Authenticator app or install it from the Google Play Store or the App Store.
- The Google Authenticator App keeps security keys of multiple accounts; this can lead to confusion when identifying the secret key to use with the plugin, So miniOrange provides a feature to customize App name for the google-authenticator. - Now, open the Google Authenticator app on your phone and select Scan a QR code.
- After that, scan the given QR code with the Authenticator app and enter the security code text box provided, click on the Verify and Save button for verification.
- Now, Click on the Settings tab.
- Here, You can see a successful check.
- After this setup, Google authenticator gets prompted as a second security layer when logging into WordPress.
- For any new login you need to enter the security code shown in the authenticator app and click on the Validate button to login to the site.
Now your account is secure and after verification only you will be able to log in.
1.User Session Control
User session control feature of WordPress 2-Factor Authentication for LMS Plugin will help you limit the number of simultaneous sessions for your users. You can decide to allow access to the new session after the limit is reached and destroy all other sessions or block access to the new session when the limit is reached.
This feature ensures that courses meant for one person are not being used by multiple people.
Follow these steps to set User Session Control:
- Choose the Number of Session after which you want to block the access.
- After enabling the toggle button, click on the Block Access option.
- Scroll down to click on the Save Settings option.
When a user has simultaneous sessions more than the specified number of sessions. And if a user tries to login, access is denied.
- Now if you want to allow access, then you choose the allow access option.
- Then, the user can login.
2.Idle Session
The Idle session feature of 2-Factor Authentication For LMS will allow you to logout a WordPress user who was inactive for a period of time. You can set the amount of hours after which you want to logout the inactive user.
Follow these steps to set Idle Session for WordPress 2FA LMS Plugin:
- Choose the Number of hours after which you want to logout the inactive user.
- Enable the toggle button.
- Scroll down to click on the Save Settings option.
After, the specified time user will be logged out automatically.
3.Set Session Time
The Set Session time feature of WordPress 2 Factor Authentication Plugin will allow you to set a time limit on the user's session. After that time, the user would be logged out and will be required to login again.
Follow these steps to Set Session of WordPress 2FA Plugin:
- Choose the Number of hours to set session time after which you want to logout the user.
- Enable the toggle button.
- Scroll down to click on the Save Settings option.
After the specified time, the user's session will expire and the user will be asked to login again.
