SSO between Shopify and a custom mobile application improves user experience, security, and overall user account and access management. SSO allows users to access both the Shopify platform and the custom mobile application with a single set of credentials, eliminating the need for users to remember multiple sets of login credentials for different platforms. With SSO, onboarding new users becomes more efficient. Users gain immediate access to both the Shopify store and the mobile app after creating an account or logging in for the first time, streamlining the onboarding process.

You can allow users to SSO into your custom mobile application using
their existing Shopify store credentials by using our
Shopify Store as an IDP
application. There is no need to migrate user identities, and with a few
simple configurations, all existing Shopify store users can be granted
access to your custom mobile application.
The user must authenticate the credentials with the Shopify store only
once. The store validates the credentials and sends the custom mobile
app a JSON Web Token (JWT). This JSON Web Token (JWT) can be used to
authenticate the user for the mobile application. Users can log into the
mobile application using the existing shopify store credentials without
needing to sign-in again on the mobile application. You can follow the
details mentioned in this
setup guide
to configure this use case.
Users will login into the app using their existing Shopify store credentials. At the same time, along with JWT token for creating a user session in the mobile app, our app will also pass the user id_token to the mobile application. Using this id_token, you can call different Shopify’s APIs in your mobile app such as fetching products, user purchase history and user profile attributes thus enhancing the usability of the custom mobile application for the end users.
