Setup Guide To Configure Canvas as OAuth Client | WordPress OAuth Server

WordPress OAuth Server plugin enables Single Sign-On (SSO) into the Canvas app using your WordPress username and password. Once you configure the Canvas with WP OAuth Server plugin, you can login to your Canvas application using WP credentials. OAuth Server plugin also allows you to send custom WordPress user attributes to your Canvas app as per your requirements. Download And Installation

  • Log into your WordPress instance as an admin.
  • Go to the WordPress Dashboard -> Plugins and click on Add New.
  • Search for a WordPress OAuth Server Single Sign-On (SSO) plugin and click on Install Now.
  • Once installed click on Activate.

Steps to configure WordPress Login into Canvas

1. Setup WordPress as OAuth Server

  • Go to miniOrange OAuth Server on the left side menu.
  • Now, search for your required OAuth Client(i.e. Canvas).
  • Click on the Canvas icon.

  • Enter Client name as you want. Get the Redirect / Callback URL from Canvas and enter under Redirect URI field. Click on Save client button.

  • Note down: Client ID, Client Secret, Endpoints to configure in Canvas app.

2. Setup Canvas as OAuth Client

  • Login to your Canvas LMS domain as an Account Administrator.
  • Go to the Admin tab and select the account for which you wish to enable Single sign-on.

  • Click on Authentication tab and select OpenID Connect as authentication service from dropdown.

  • In the OpenID Connect section, you will get the Redirect URI, keep the redirect URI handy as we will require it later to configure miniOrange OAuth Server Single Sign-On (SSO) Plugin.
  • Now, enter the Client ID, Client Secret, Endpoints and Scope ,which you will get from the miniOrange OAuth server plugin. You can also enable the Just in Time Provisioning checkbox if you want the users to be created if they don’t exist.
  • Client ID : Click Here

    Authorization Endpoint : <your domain>/wp-json/moserver/authorize
    Token Endpoint : <your domain>/wp-json/moserver/token
    Scope : profile
    Login attribute : email

  • If you want the profile attributes to be mapped to the incoming data from WordPress, you can configure Federated Attributes according to your preferences. Add attributes by clicking the + Attribute button. Click on Save.
