Configure Drupal Two-factor Authentication (OTP over Email)


Setup Drupal OTP over Email using Drupal 2FA ( Two-Factor Authentication ) module. This guide will help you to configure OTP over Email as Two Factor Authentication ( 2FA )  method for your Drupal site. Drupal 2FA module will add a second layer of authentication to your Drupal account to increase the security of your site from unwanted hacks and unauthorized login attempts.

Pre-requisite: Download and Installation 


  • Download the module:
    composer require 'drupal/miniorange_2fa'
  • Go to Extend menu on your Drupal admin console and enable the module by checking the checkbox and click on Install button.
  • Configure the module at
    {BaseURL}/admin/config/people/miniorange_2fa/customer_setup
  • Install the module:
    drush en miniorange_2fa
  • Clear the cache:
     drush cr
  • Configure the module at
    {BaseURL}/admin/config/people/miniorange_2fa/customer_setup
  • Navigate to Extend menu on your Drupal admin console and click on Install new module.
  • Install the Drupal Two Factor Authentication / Passwordless login module either by downloading the zip or from the URL of the package (tar/zip).
  • Click on Enable newly added modules.
  • Enable this module by checking the checkbox and click on Install button.
  • Configure the module at
    {BaseURL}/admin/config/people/miniorange_2fa/customer_setup

Setup Video OTP over Email Verification method with Drupal 2FA

Steps to configure OTP over Email Verification ( One Time Passcode validate via Email Verification code ) method with Drupal Two-Factor Authentication ( 2FA ) module:

1. Configure OTP over Email 2FA method

  • Register/Login with miniOrange.
  • Drupal 2FA registration
  • Click on the Setup Two-Factor tab. Select OTP Over Email and click on the Test button.
  • Drupal 2FA select OTP over Email method
  • Enter the OTP received on your Email and click on the Verify button.
  • Drupal 2FA Enter Email ID
  • You have successfully tested OTP over Email method.
  • Drupal 2FA Enter OTP over Email

2. Try login using miniOrange 2-Factor module ( OTP over Email )

  • Once you complete the OTP over Email setup, open a new browser/private window, and login into your Drupal site. You will be asked to authenticate your identity using the OTP over Email Verification ( 2FA ) method.
