Set up Two-Factor Authentication in Joomla using Yubikey Hardware Token. This guide will help you configure Yubikey Hardware Token as a Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) method for your Joomla site using our miniOrange Joomla 2FA plugin. The Joomla 2FA plugin adds an extra layer of security to your Joomla account, protecting your site from unauthorized logins and potential hacks.

  • Download the .zip file for the miniOrange 2FA Plugin for Joomla using the link above.
  • Now go to System -> under Install section -> click on Extensions.
  • Now under Upload Package File click on browse for file then select the .zip file of 2FA plugin.
  • After the installation is complete click on Start using miniOrange 2FA Plugin.

  • In the Account Setup tab, enter your account credentials and log into your account.
  • Now go to the Login Settings tab. Here, make sure that Enforce Two-Factor Authentication is checked. You can enforce 2FA for both Frontend and Backend login Users from the drop down menu.

    Frontend Login: If you want to invoke TFA for the users who log in through the frontend of the website.

    Backend Login: If you want to invoke TFA for users who log in through the administrator panel.

  • Under authentication methods section, enable the Yubikey Hardware Token methods of your choice by checking their respective boxes.

  • When a user tries to log into the Joomla site for the first time, they will be presented with the following window. Here, they can select the authentication method of their choice. We will be selecting Yubikey Hardware Token method for this guide. Then click on Select & Next.

  • Now Insert the YUBIKEY HARDWARE in your device then tap on the key to generate a one time passcode and click on Verify.
