SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) into Inkling using Joomla IDP Plugin

Login using Joomla Users ( Joomla as SAML IDP ) plugin gives you the ability to use your Joomla credentials to log into Inkling. Here we will go through a step-by-step guide to configure SSO between Inkling as Service Provider and Joomla as an Identity Provider.

Steps for Integration of Joomla Single Sign-On (SSO) with Inkling as Service Provider

1. Configure Inkling as the Service Provider (SP)

  • Obtain issuer(Entity id), ACS URL, if Inkling SP is configured for signed requests then you need to provide the certificate in the plugin as well. Obtain it from metadata file of Inkling SP.
  • In Identity provider tab of IDP plugin enter the values:

    Service Provider NameChoose appropriate name according to your choice.
    SP Entity ID or Issuer Inkling SP's Entity ID
    ACS URLInkling SP's Assertion Consumer Service URL.
    X.509 Certificate (optional) [For Signed Request] Paste certificate value you copied from the Metadata file.
    NameID FormatSelect urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:1.1:nameid-format:emailAddress.
    Response Signed Unchecked.
    Assertion Signed Checked.
    Encrypted Assertion Unchecked.
  • You will need to upload the IdP metadata or give certain IDP information in Inkling. You can get this information from the Service Provider Tab in the plugin.
  • You will need to configure user attributes to be sent in the SAML response which Inkling needs to log in the user. You can do this under the Attribute/Role Mapping Tab in the plugin. Note the Attributes required for Inkling.
  • Configure the plugin to send relevant user details.
  • Please Note: The name you provide in the plugin for each attribute has to match the name being asked in the plugin dashboard.

2: Configuring Joomla as Identity Provider (IDP)

  • Login into your Joomla site’s Administrator console.
  • From left toggle menu, click on System, then under Install section click on Extensions.
  • Now click on Or Browse for file button to locate and install the plugin file downloaded earlier.

  • Installation of plugin is successful. Now click on Start Using miniOrange SAML IDP Plugin to configure miniOrange Joomla IDP plugin.
Get Started with SAML IDP Setup

  • Go to the miniOrange Joomla IDP plugin, navigate to the Identity Provider tab.
  • Here, you can find the Identity Provider Metadata XML URL/File or endpoints like IDP Entity ID, SAML Login URL, SAML Logout URL (Premium Feature), and Certificate for SP configuration. Download the XML Metadata by clicking on the button as shown below.
