×Cisco Systems (CSCO), a top company in information technology and networking, wanted a new way to improve user identification and make it easier for people to access their merchandise store. They also needed to restrict access for employees and other users. miniOrange helped Cisco improve its user experience on the Cisco merchandise platform by making the login process simpler and safer by developing a tailored solution that met their specific needs.
Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO) is a global leader in information technology and networking. Since its founding in 1984, Cisco has been at the forefront of developing essential technologies that power the internet and facilitate connectivity worldwide. The company offers a wide range of innovative solutions, including networking hardware, software, cybersecurity tools, collaboration platforms, and cloud infrastructure services.
Cisco faced certain challenges at the user and management levels. These include:
To tackle these challenges, miniOrange proposed a few solutions. Let’s look into them in detail.
1. Single Sign-On (SSO) for the Login Process
To help employees and customers and/or contractors log in to multiple systems easily and resolve security issues, we implemented the Single Sign-On (SSO) solution.
Cisco had been using Duo, a two-factor authentication solution, to enhance security through identity verification and device trust. By integrating miniOrange's Single Sign-On (SSO) application, Cisco enabled its users to access their Shopify accounts using their existing Duo credentials. This streamlined the login process, eliminating the necessity for separate usernames or passwords, thereby simplifying access and saving time and effort for Cisco's end users.
2. Content Restriction for Access Management
Adding the Content Restriction application to Cisco's merchandise store creates two different shopping experiences. With miniOrange's attribute-based restrictions, what users can see and purchases depends on their profile details. Cisco employees can see and purchase products at discounted prices thanks to the employee tag assigned during SSO. Contractors, without these tags, don’t see the discounts. This ensures employees get their benefits while keeping things simple for contractors.
By leveraging these attribute-based restrictions, Cisco can efficiently manage user access, providing a seamless and personalized shopping experience for their employees while maintaining the necessary controls for contractors. You can easily configure the miniOrange Content Restriction application using this setup guide.
The entire implementation of miniOrange applications for Cisco resulted in significant improvements for its end-users, namely employees and customers & the organization as a whole.
