Configure OTP Verification in Joomla

Overview

The miniOrange MFA and OTP Verification Plugin for Joomla verifies a user's phone number or email address during registration. It sends a one time verification code (OTP) to the provided phone number or email address, allowing the user to confirm that the contact information entered during registration is valid.

Configuration Steps

Step 1: Download and Install Joomla MFA/OTP Plugin

• Download the .zip file for the miniOrange MFA/OTP Plugin for Joomla using the link above.
• Now go to System -> under Install section -> click on Extensions.
• Now under Upload Package File click on browse for file then select the .zip file of 2FA plugin.
• After the installation is complete click on Get Started button.

Step 2: Configure MFA/OTP Plugin

• Then click on Components -> miniOrange Multi-Factor Authentication MFA -> Account Setup. Here you can login into your miniOrange account or register for a new account if you don't one already.
• Now to enable OTP Verification during registration, go to the Registration Settings tab and check Enable During Registration in the OTP at Registration section.

• Then select the Verification Method of your choice from the dropdown menu.

• Now click on Save Settings. You have successfully enabled OTP Verification during user registration for Joomla.

Step 4: Enable Restrictions During Registration

• You can enable certain Domain and Country Code Restrictions to prevent users from registering from these Domains and countries.
• To achieve this check the Enable During Registration option under Domain Restrictions section, and enter the email domains you want to either allow or block in the given fields (Note: You have to select either Allow Domains or Block Domains option below the field.). Then click on the Save Settings button.

• To block user from certain countries, enter the country codes in the given field under the Block Country Code section, then click on the Save Settings button.

Step 4: Enable User Registration for Joomla

• In order to allow user registrations in your Joomla site please follow the following steps.
• In your Joomla Dashboard select Global Configuration.

• Here select Users from the left hand navbar and then click on Enable User Registration.

Step 5: Add a Custom Phone Field during Joomla Registration

• Go to your Joomla Dashboard. Then Click on Components -> Plugins.

• Here search for User in the given search field.

• Then Click on User - Profile.

• Here click on the Phone dropdown menu and select Required.

• And then click on Save & Close.

Step 5: Test OTP Verification

• First go to your Login URL in a new private window.
• Here click on the Create an account link.

• In the registration page fill in all the required fields.

• You will get a new window where you must enter the OTP sent to your User's phone number and then click on Validate OTP.

• Congratulations, you have successfully verified the User's Phone number during registration.
