How to setup WhatsApp cloud API to configure your own sender’s number for WhatsApp login?

Overview

WhatsApp setup on Meta for Developers lets businesses send messages to users through WhatsApp. By creating a Business app and adding basic details like your phone number and message templates, you can start sending updates, alerts, or login messages easily. It helps you connect with customers in a fast and reliable way.

Getting started with the setup

Let's create a WhatsApp Business account.

Create WhatsApp Business Account

• Go to https://developers.facebook.com and click on the My Apps button located in the top-right corner. (Make sure you're logged into your Facebook account.)

• Click on the Create App button to proceed.

• Enter a name for your app. You can choose any name you prefer.
• Click the Next button to continue.

• Choose your use case and click Next to proceed.

• Select Business as the app type, then click Next to continue.

• After clicking the Create App button, your app will be created.

• A pop-up will appear prompting you to enter your Facebook account password. Enter the password and click the Submit button.

• Navigate to the WhatsApp product and click on the Set Up button.

• Click on the Continue button.

• Go to the API Setup sub-tab under the WhatsApp tab on the left side.
• Click the dropdown, then choose the Manage Phone Number list to add a phone number.

• Choose your country code from the dropdown, enter your phone number, and click Next to continue.

• Enter the Verification code sent to your entered phone number via WhatsApp.
• Click the Next button to continue.

• Click the Generate Access Token button to create an access token.
• Note to the Access Token and Phone Number ID.

• Click the Create Your Own Template link.

• Click the Create Templates button to start creating a template.

• Choose Authentication as the category for your message template, then click Next to continue.

• Next, enter a name for the template and select a language from the dropdown.
• After clicking the Submit button, your template will be created.

• Note to the Template Name and Template Language Code.

• The Phone Number ID, Access Token, Template Name, and Template Language Code that you noted will be used while configuring WhatsApp.
