WordPress SAML Single Sign On (SSO) Login Integration using Drupal as IDP


Drupal WordPress SSO Integration will allow you to configure Single Sign-On ( SSO ) login between your Drupal site and WordPress. WordPress SSO integration with your Drupal site will help your users to login into WordPress using their Drupal credentials. The Drupal SAML IDP SSO login module which is compatible with Drupal 7, Drupal 8, and as well as Drupal 9. Here we will go through a step-by-step guide to configure SAML IDP SSO login between Drupal site and WordPress considering SP and Drupal as IDP. The following steps below to configure the Single Sign-On ( SSO ) into Drupal as Identity Provider and WordPress as Service Provider:

Installation Steps 


  • Download the module:
    composer require 'drupal/miniorange_saml_idp'
  • Navigate to Extend menu on your Drupal admin console and search for miniOrange SAML Identity Provider using the search box.
  • Enable the module by checking the checkbox and click on install button.
  • Configure the module at
    {BaseURL}/admin/config/people/miniorange_saml_idp/idp_setup
  • Install the module:
    drush en miniorange_saml_idp
  • Clear the cache:
     drush cr
  • Configure the module at
    {BaseURL}/admin/config/people/miniorange_saml_idp/idp_setup
  • Navigate to Extend menu on your Drupal admin console and click on Install new module button.
  • Install the Drupal SAML IDP 2.0 Single Sign On (SSO) - SAML Identity Provider module either by downloading the zip or from the URL of the package (tar/zip).
  • Click on Enable newly added modules.
  • Enable this module by checking the checkbox and click on install button.
  • Configure the module at
    {BaseURL}/admin/config/people/miniorange_saml_idp/idp_setup

Set up SAML SSO login in WordPress using Drupal as SAML IDP

You can refer the steps to configure WordPress using Drupal as Identity Provider (Idp).


Steps to configure WordPress Single Sign-On (SSO) Login into Drupal website

1. Configuring WordPress as Service Provider

  • In miniOrange SAML plugin, go to Service Provider Setup tab of the miniOrange WP SAML Service Provider plugin. There are two ways to configure the plugin:
  • Drupal SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) wp service provider setup
      A. By Uploading IDP Metadata
    • Click on Upload IDP metadata button.
    • Enter the Identity Provider Name
    • You can either upload a metadata file and click on Upload button or use a metadata URL and click on Fetch Metadata.

      B. Manual Configuration
    • Navigate to Service Provider Setup tab of the miniOrange SAML SP plugin.
    • Provide the required settings (i.e. Identity Provider Name, IdP Entity ID or Issuer, SAML Login URL, X.509 Certificate) as provided by your Identity Provider.
    • Click on the Save Configuration button to save your configuration.

2. Enable SSO settings

  • You can add a login widget to enable SP-Initiated SSO on your site.
  • Navigate to Redirection and SSO links tab and follow the steps given under Option 1: Use a Widget to add a login widget on your site.

You have now successfully configured WordPress as SAML SP

3. Configuring Drupal as Identity Provider

  • Navigate to the Service Provider Setup tab of the miniOrange SAML IDP module on your Drupal site.

    • Enter the Identity Provider Name
    • You can either upload a metadata file and click on Upload button or use a metadata URL and click on Fetch Metadata.

    • Navigate to Identity Provider Setup tab of the miniOrange Drupal IDP module.
    • Provide the required settings (i.e. Service Provider Name, SP Entity ID or Issuer, ACS (Assertion Consumer Service) URL, X.509 Certificate (Optional)) as provided by your Service Provider.
    • Click on the Save Configuration button to save your configuration.

4. Test SSO Configuration:

  • Click on the Test Configuration button under Identity provider Setup tab of the miniOrange Drupal SAML IDP module.
  • This will redirect user to WordPress site where session will be generated for that user.
  • You have successfully Integrated Drupal SAML IDP with WordPress.
