Salesforce SSO and Provisioning | Miscelleneous FAQs  Technical

Can I use Salesforce Contacts as identity for SSO?

Yes. Our package allows contacts (and leads/accounts or custom objects) to be used as the identity source for federated login to external apps.

What protocols are supported?

We support SAML 2.0 and OAuth2/OpenID Connect for broad compatibility with SPs.

Do I need a separate IdP service?

No. You’re using Salesforce itself as the IdP — so no separate IdP purchase or management is required.

What about attribute mapping?

You can map Salesforce object fields (like Email, Role, AccountID) into SAML/OIDC attributes for the downstream apps. Custom object fields are supported too.

Is this compliant for audit/logging?

Yes. Because identity flows are managed through Salesforce, you can leverage standard audit logs, custom objects, and dashboard reporting to satisfy compliance.

Salesforce SSO and Provisioning | Pricing FAQs   Requirements and Compatibility

Which Salesforce editions support Identity Provider (IdP) capability?

Salesforce editions such as Enterprise and Unlimited support the Identity Provider feature needed for SSO.

How is the connector installed in Salesforce?

The connector is installed through a packaged AppExchange app, making the setup quick and managed.

Do client applications need to support specific protocols?

Yes. Service Providers (SPs) must support SAML 2.0 or OpenID Connect (OIDC) in order to integrate with Salesforce as an IdP.

What Salesforce permissions are required for setup?

You need Salesforce administrator access to configure Connected Apps, upload certificates, and set SSO policies.

Can I use custom objects as the identity source?

Yes, as long as the custom objects contain identity attributes—such as username or email—that can be mapped into the SSO assertion.
