Brightspace Single Sign-On (SSO) / Login using WordPress as SAML IdP


Brightspace is one of the world's fastest growing learning management systems. You can now Single Sign-On (SSO) / Login into Brightspace using WordPress as Identity provider (IdP) with Login using WordPress Users (WP as SAML IDP) plugin. Our plugin gives you the ability to use your WordPress (WP) credentials to Single Sign-On(SSO) / Login into Brightspace. Here we will go through a step-by-step guide to configure SSO between Brightspace as SP (Service Provider) and WordPress as IdP (Identity Provider).

Pre-requisites: Download And Installation

To integrate the WordPress site as an Identity Provider, you will need to install the miniOrange Login using WordPress Users ( WP as SAML IDP ) plugin:

Single Sign-On (SSO) login with WordPress Users into any Service Provider like Tableau, Zoho, Zoom, Moodle, Canvas LMS, Absorb LMS, TalentLMS, etc.

Follow the Step-by-Step Guide given below for Brightspace Single Sign On (SSO)

1. Setup Brightspace as SP (Service Provider)

  • Go to the WordPress IDP plugin, navigate to the IDP Metadata tab.
  • Here, you can find the Identity Provider Metadata URL /XML File or endpoints like IDP Entity ID, SAML Login URL, SAML Logout URL (Premium Feature), Certificate for SP configuration.
  • Brightspace SSO login using Wordpress
  • Login to your Brightspace domain as admin.
  • To configure Single Sign On send an email to Brightspace Technical Support Team .
  • Also, provide the Endpoints required from the WordPress IDP.
  • Name of Identity Provider WordPress
    Issuer URL Provide the IDP-Entity ID / Issuer value from IDP metadata tab of the WordPress IDP Plugin
    SSO URL Provide the SAML Login URL / Passive Login URL from IDP metadata tab of the WordPress IDP Plugin
    Certificate Provide the Certificate downloaded from the IDP metadata tab of the WordPress IDP Plugin
  • You configured successfully configured Brightspace with your WordPress IdP.

2. Configure WordPress (WP) as IdP (Identity Provider)

  • You would need SP Entity ID , ACS URL from Brightspace .
  • You can find this information after the Brightspace Support Team sends you the proper configuration.

  • Login to the WordPress site.
  • Install and activate the Login using WordPress Users ( WP as SAML IDP ) plugin on your WordPress site which is acting as Identity Provider.
  • Go to the WordPress IDP plugin, navigate to the Service Providers tab.
  • Enter the values corresponding to the information from Brightspace. Refer to the table below.
  • Service Provider Name Brightspace
    SP Entity ID or Issuer Copy and paste the SP-EntityID from Brightspace
    ACS URL Copy and paste the ACS URL from Brightspace
    NameID Format urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:1.1:nameid-format:emailAddress
    Assertion Signed Checked

  • Click on the Save button to save your configuration.

3. Attribute Mapping (This is a premium feature)

  • In the WordPress IDP plugin, navigate to the Attribute/Role Mapping tab.
  • In the User Attributes section, enter the following information and click on Save .
  • You can also add more attributes by clicking on + sign to add attributes.
  • Name User Meta Data
    FirstName first_name
    LastName last_name
