How to Securely Connect Your WordPress Site to Claude AI Using MCP

Overview

Claude AI is one of the most popular AI assistants for writing, coding, research, and everyday tasks. With the miniOrange Secure MCP Connector, you can securely connect Claude AI to your WordPress site in just a few steps. Once connected, you can use natural-language prompts to interact with your website and perform approved WordPress actions. Your existing WordPress access controls determine what Claude AI can view and do.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have the following in place:

• A self-hosted WordPress site running WordPress 6.9 or above, as the WordPress Abilities API required for this integration is available from WordPress 6.9 onward.
• A publicly accessible HTTPS URL for your WordPress site. AI clients connect to your site over the internet, so localhost or private network URLs are not supported.
• The miniOrange Secure MCP Connector plugin installed and activated on your WordPress site.

Configuration Steps

Step 1: Set Up the WordPress Plugin

• Sign in to your WordPress admin dashboard and open Plugins > Add New.
• Search for miniOrange Secure MCP Connector, then install and activate the plugin.

• Select Secure MCP Connector from the WordPress admin menu to access the plugin settings.

• Open the NHI Registry tab and click Register your first NHI to create a unique identity for your AI client.

• Enter a descriptive name for the NHI so you can identify it later, then click Next.

• Choose which abilities each WordPress user role can use. For example, grant the Administrator role access to the Get Site Information ability, then click Create & Continue.

• After the NHI is created, click Connect your AI client to open the connection details.

• Select the connection method you want to use and copy the required URL(s). Keep these values ready, as you'll need them when connecting your AI client.
• Method A: Copy the miniOrange Gateway URL and Site URL.
• Method B: Copy the MCP Endpoint URL.

Step 2: Connect Your WordPress Site to Claude AI

• Open Claude AI and navigate to Settings > Connectors.
• Click the Add Connector icon and select Add custom connector.

• Enter a name for the connector.
• Connect your WordPress site using one of the following methods:
• Method A: Paste the MCP URL generated by the miniOrange Secure MCP Connector plugin.
• Method B: Paste the MCP Endpoint URL.

• Click Connect.

• Enter your WordPress site URL and click Continue.
• Once the connection is complete, you can start interacting with your WordPress site directly from Claude AI.

Note: Each user can connect their own Claude AI, ChatGPT, or Cursor account to the same WordPress site using their personal account.

What You Can Do Once Connected

After connecting your WordPress site, you can use natural-language prompts to complete everyday WordPress tasks without switching between different dashboard pages. The available actions depend on the abilities registered through the WordPress Abilities API.

You can:

• View WordPress site and environment information.
• Check your account details.
• Create new posts and pages.
• Update existing posts and pages.
• Use other abilities exposed through the WordPress Abilities API.

Every request passes through the Secure MCP Connector, which validates the request before allowing the action to run on your WordPress site.
