Two Factor Authentication (2FA) for DotNetNuke (DNN) using PasswordLess Login | Secure DNN Login

DotNetNuke (DNN) Passwordless Login provides the ability to log in to the DNN login page without using a password. OTP-based authentication methods such as OTP over Email, OTP over SMS, and OTP over WhatsApp are used to verify the user's identity, making the login process simple and secure.Our DotNetNuke (DNN) Two Factor Authentication Provider supports Passwordless Login along with various authentication methods, including Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, OTP over SMS, OTP over Email, Duo Push Notification, and more.

1. The PasswordLess Login feature is an enterprise feature, and you can download the enterprise plugin from the miniOrange portal.

2. Upload the installation package dnn-two-factor-authentication-provider_xxx_install by going in Settings > Extension > Install Extension.

3. Now under the Installed extensions tab select Authentication Systems. Here you can see the miniOrange DNN 2FA Authentication Provider.

4. You have finished with the installation of the 2FA Authentication Provider on your DNN site.

  • Click on the pencil icon, as mentioned in the image below, to configure the DNN 2FA Authentication Provider.

  • Navigate to the Site Settings tab to configure DNN 2FA.

  • Log in to the DNN 2FA plugin to access the admin dashboard using your miniOrange account under which the license is purchased.
  • Log in to https://portal.miniorange.com/ using your registered account credentials. After logging in, you can find your license key on the Dashboard.
  • Enter the license key in the License Key field and click on the Activate License button.

  • For PasswordLess Login to work properly, it is a prerequisite to set the mobile number or email in the specific DNN profile field to send and validate the OTP on these numbers/addresses.
  • For signing into DNN using PasswordLess Login, it is a prerequisite to disable 2FA and only configure and enable the OTP methods.
  • Click on PasswordLess Login under the Configuration tab. To use OTP over SMS, Email, or WhatsApp for passwordless login, you must first configure the desired OTP method under the OTP Methods section.

  • Enable the toggle button for the configured method(s) (OTP over SMS, Email, or WhatsApp) first, and then enable the Passwordless Login toggle button to allow end users to use Passwordless Login.

  • When you log in as an end user, navigate to the Passwordless Login tab and select your preferred method (OTP over Email or OTP over SMS) from the Select Method dropdown.

  • Enter your email address if you select OTP over Email, or enter your mobile number if you select OTP over SMS, then click Send OTP.

  • Enter the OTP you received and click Verify OTP.

  • After the validation of the OTP, the user gets logged into the DNN site whose email address or mobile number was used for login purposes.
