Setup Microsoft Entra ID as a SCIM Client and Joomla as a SCIM Server

Overview

Joomla SCIM User Provisioning plugin gives you ability to automate user creation, updation and deletion process from existing Identity Provider to your Joomla site. The System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) is an open standard for securely synchronizing user information between multiple applications. Here we will go through a step-by-step guide to enable SCIM user sync between Joomla site and Azure AD as Identity Provider.

Step 1: Install Joomla SCIM User Provisioning Plugin

• Download the zip file for the miniOrange SCIM User provisioning plugin for Joomla from the here.
• Now go to the System -> under Install section -> click on Extensions

• Now under Upload Package File click on browse for file then select zip file of SCIM User Provisioning plugin.

Step 2: Configure Joomla as SCIM Server

• Navigate to the SCIM Configuration tab to find the SCIM Base URL and SCIM Bearer Token, which will be handy for you.

Step 3: Configure Microsoft Entra ID as SCIM Client

• Log in to the Azure AD dashboard and select Microsoft Entra ID. Then, click on the Enterprise Application button from the sidebar.

• Now click on New Application and then click on Create your own application and give the application a suitable name. Make sure that non-gallery application is selected. Finally click on the Create button. If you already have an enterprise application and want to enable provisioning in it then jump to this step.

• Click on Provisioning from the side menu and click on Get started.

• Select Automatic in Provisioning Mode and enter the SCIM Base URL and SCIM Bearer Token under the Tenant URL and Secret Token fields.

• Assign users to your application. Click on Users and groups and then click on Add user/group. Assigned users will be created in your Joomla site if they are not already present.

• Once done with configuration, Go back to application and click on Start provisioning.

• You have successfully configured the miniOrange Joomla SCIM User Provisioning Plugin with Microsoft Entra ID.
