Configure Okta Single Sign-On (SSO) with Joomla SCIM Plugin

Overview

Joomla SCIM plugin gives you ability to automate user creation, updation and deletion process from existing Identity Provider to your Joomla site. The System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) is an open standard for securely synchronizing user information between multiple applications. Here we will go through a step-by-step guide to enable SCIM user sync between Joomla site and Okta as Identity Provider.

Step 1: Install Joomla SCIM User Provisioning Plugin

• Download the zip file for the miniOrange SCIM User provisioning plugin for Joomla from the here.
• Now go to the System -> under Install section -> click on Extensions

• Now under Upload Package File click on browse for file then select zip file of SCIM User Provisioning plugin.

Step 2: Configure Joomla as SCIM Server

• Go to SCIM Configurations tab to get SCIM base URL and SCIM bearer Token these will be used later

Step 3: Configure Google / G-Suite as SCIM Client

• Go to Okta portal and sign up/login to your account.
• Go to Admin Portal click on Applications.
• Click on Add Application

• Search for the SCIM. Add the SCIM 2.0 Test App (Bearer Token) application.

• Click on the Add button.

• Click on Next

• Click on Done

• Once the app is created, go to the Provisioning menu of the application and Click on the Configure API Integration button.

• Now click on the Enable API Integration and enter the SCIM Base URL (as SCIM connector base URL) and SCIM Bearer Token (as Authorization) from the SCIM Configuration tab of the plugin. Then click on Test API Credentials.

• If the connection is established, it will show a successful message. Then click on the Save button.
• After that Click on the To App under the Settings option on the left side. Click on Edit button.

• Check the checkbox of Create Users and Deactivate Users and click on the Save button.

• Click on Save.

• Then go to Assignments menu and add Users that you want to provision into your application.

• Congratulations, you have successfully configured the miniOrange Joomla SCIM User Provisioning plugin with Okta.
