Office 365 Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth / OpenID Connect into Magento | Microsoft SSO Login


Office 365 Single Sign-On (SSO) with Magento enables secure login access into Magento using Office 365 as OAuth and OpenID Connect provider. Magento OAuth/OpenID Connect Single Sign-On module gives the ability to enable OAuth/OpenID Single Sign-On for Magento. If you want users to log in to your Magento site using their Office 365 credentials, you can simply do it using our Magento OAuth/OpenID Connect Single Sign-On Plugin. Once you configure the Office 365 with the Magento module, you can allow users to SSO to your Magento site using Office 365. It has powerful Single Sign-On (SSO) features like user profile attribute mapping and role mapping, among others. We'll go over how to set up Single Sign-On (SSO) for user authentication between Magento and Office 365 in this guide.

Pre-requisites : Download And Installation

Installation using Composer:
  • Purchase the miniOrange OAuth / OpenID Connect Single Sign On extension from magento marketplace.
  • Go to My profile -> My Purchases
  • Please ensure you are using correct access keys (My Profile - Access Keys)
  • Paste the access keys in your auth.json file inside your project
  • Use the below command to add the extension to your project.
    "composer require miniorange_inc/miniorange-oauth-sso"
  • You can see the module name and list of versions in the selector below the extension module name.
  • Run the following commands on command prompt to enable the extension.
  • php bin/magento setup:di:compile
    php bin/magento setup:upgrade

Manual Installation:
  • Download the miniOrange OAuth OpenID Connect Single Sign-On extension zip from here.
  • Unzip all contents of the zip inside the MiniOrange/OAuth directory.
  • {Root Directory of Magento} app code MiniOrange OAuth
  • Run the following commands on command prompt to enable the extension.
  • php bin/magento setup:di:compile
    php bin/magento setup:upgrade

Steps to configure Office 365 OAuth & OpenID Single Sign-On (SSO) Login into Magento

1. Setup Office 365 as OAuth Provider

Follow the steps below to configure Office 365 as OAuth Provider

  • Sign in to Azure portal.
  • Click on App Services and go to Manage Azure Active Directory.

  • From the left-hand navigation pane, click the App registrations service, and click New registration.

  • When the Create page appears, enter your application's registration information.(Refer to the below table)
  • Name : Name of your application.
    Application type :
    1. Select "Web app / API" for client applications and resource/API applications that are installed on a secure server. This setting is used for OAuth confidential web clients and public user-agent-based clients. The same application can also expose both a client and resource/API.
    Sign-on URL :
    1. For "Web app / API" applications, provide the base URL of your app. eg, https://<domain-name> might be the URL for a web app running on your local machine. Users would use this URL to sign in to a web client application.
  • Make sure the "Grant admin consent to openid and offline_access permissions" option is enabled. When finished, click Register.

  • A unique Application ID is assigned to your application by Azure AD. Keep the Application ID and the Directory ID handy, they will be your Client ID and Tenant ID, which will be needed later to configure the miniOrange Magento OAuth Client plugin.

  • Go to API permissions from the left navigaton pane and click on Add permissions. Then select Office 365.

  • Select permissions and click on Add Permissions button.

  • Go to Certificates and Secrets from the left navigaton pane and click on New Client Secret. Enter description and expiration time and click on ADD option.

  • Copy the secret key "value" and keep the value handy it will be your Client Secret which will be required to configure miniOrange Magento OAuth Client Plugin.

Office 365 as an OAuth Provider is successfully configured from the above step for achieving Office 365 Single Sign-On (SSO) with Office 365 login credentials into your Magento Site.

2. Configuring Magento 2 as OAuth Client

  • After successfully configuring OAuth Provider, go to OAuth Provider tab and configure OAuth Provider Name, Client ID, Client Secret, Scope and provided endpoints. (You can copy these values in STEP 2 from the application dashboard.)

    Please refer below Endpoints to configure the OAuth client


    Scope: openid
    Authorize Endpoint: https://login.microsoftonline.com/[tenant-id]/oauth2/v2.0/authorize
    Access Token Endpoint: https://login.microsoftonline.com/[tenant-id]/oauth2/v2.0/token
    Get User Info Endpoint: https://graph.microsoft.com/beta/me
  • Click on the Save button to save the settings.
  • Click on the Test Configuration button.

  • You will see all the values returned by your OAuth Provider to Magento in a table. If you don't see value for First Name, Last Name, Email or Username, make the required settings in your OAuth Provider to return this information.
  • The miniOrange Premium Plugin also provides you the the feature to auto redirect your user to the IdP Login Page.

  • Go to the Sign In Settings tab and check options to enable SSO on your Magento site.

4. Customer / Admin SSO



  • Go to customer login page and you will see the SSO button on your frontend. Click on the button and test the SSO.

3: Attribute / Custom Mapping (Optional). *This is Premium feature.

  • You can map attributes in the Attribute Mapping tab. Only username and email are allowed to be mapped in free version of the plugin. However, in the premium version of the plugin, you can map various attributes coming from your OAuth Provider to the attributes present in your Magento site.

4: Role Mapping (Optional). *This is Premium feature.

  • You can specify a default role in the free plugin that will be allocated to all non-admin users when they conduct SSO.
  • Go to Attribute/Role mapping tab and navigate to Role Mapping section.
  • Select the Default Role and click on the Save button.
