Tableau Server SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) | Login into Tableau Server using WordPress

Tableau Server SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) with WordPress as the SAML Identity Provider (IdP). The WP as SAML IdP plugin allows users to log in to Tableau Server (SP) using their WordPress credentials. This guide provides a step-by-step configuration for WordPress Tableau Server SSO and enables seamless Tableau Server WP SSO integration.

Note: Premium Version of WP SAML IDP Plugin is required to set up SSO with Tableau Server.

If you want to configure WordPress with Tableau Online as the Service Provider, follow the steps given in the setup guide.

To configure WordPress as SAML IDP and Tableau Server as SP with WordPress, you will need to install the miniOrange Login using WordPress Users (WP as SAML IDP).


  • Go to the WordPress IDP plugin, navigate to the IDP Metadata tab.
  • Here, you can find the Identity Provider Metadata URL /XML Metadata or endpoints like IDP Entity ID, SAML Login URL, SAML Logout URL (Premium Feature), Certificate. You can also download the IdP Metadata XML file which will be used for Tableau Server configuration.

  • Login to your Tableau Services Manager as Admin.
  • In the Configuration tab, select User Identity & Access, then click on Authentication Method tab.

To configure Tableau Server follow the given steps.

In Tableau Step 1:

  • In Authentication Method, select SAML and provide the data from the IDP Metadata tab of the plugin.

Enter the URL that Tableau Server users will access.
SAML Entity ID The entity ID uniquely identifies your Tableau Server installation to the IDP. You can enter your Tableau Server URL again here.

Click on Select File to upload the SAML certificate and SAML key.
You can generate the self-signed certificate using OpenSSL using the following command
openssl req -x509 -sha256 -nodes -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout cert.key -days 365 -out cert.crt

In Tableau Step 2:

  • Click on Download XML Metadata File, this will be required for configuring the IDP.

In Tableau Step 3:

  • Navigate to the IDP Metadata tab of the WordPress IDP Plugin and download the IDP metadata file.

In Tableau Step 4:

  • Now, you can upload the Metadata XML File of the Identity Provider.

Note: In some cases, you may need to change the assertion values in the Tableau Server configuration to match the assertion names that are passed by your IDP.


  • Enter the assertion values that you want to map during SSO.

In Tableau Step 6:

  • You can check or uncheck the checkbox if you wish to enable or disable the SAML Single Logout.

  • Click on Save Pending Changes and then click on Pending Changes at the top of the page.

  • Click Apply Changes and Restart to restart your Tableau server.

  • In the WordPress IDP plugin, under the Service Provider tab click on upload SP metadata.
  • Enter the Service Provider name and click on the Upload button.

  • In the WordPress IDP plugin, navigate to the Attribute/Role Mapping tab.
  • In the User Attributes section, enter the following information and click on Save .
  • You can also add more attributes by clicking on + sign to add attributes.

  • In the Incognito browser window, enter the Tableau Server URL.
  • The browser will redirect you to the WordPress Login screen.
  • Enter the WordPress Credentials and click on Log in.
  • If you are redirected back to your Tableau Server start page and logged in successfully, then your configuration is correct.
