Configure VKontakte Single Sign-On (SSO) Login into Joomla

  • Download the zip file for the miniOrange OAuth Client plugin for Joomla from the link here .
  • Login into your Joomla site’s administrator console.
  • From Menu, click on System, then under Install section click on Extension.

  • Upload the downloaded zip file to install the Joomla OAuth Client plugin.

  • After successful installation of plugin, click on Start Using miniOrange OAuth Client plugin button.

  • Copy the Callback/Redirect URL from Configure OAuth tab of Joomla OAuth Client plugin.

  • First of all, log into your VKontakte account.
  • You will be presented with following screen. Click on Create Application.

  • You will be shown a form where you have to enter Application Name and Type. Select Platform as Website and fill other details as required. Now click on Connect Site.
  • Login with Vkontakte into Joomla | Vkontakte SSO with Joomla, Application Name
  • You will be asked for a verification code that will be sent on the phone number registered with VKontakte.

  • After Successful verification, you will be brought to Information page, then verify the URL. Click on Save
  • Vkontakte OAuth SSO with Joomla | Vkontakte Single Sign-On, App Details and Save
  • Go to Settings tab. Here you will find Secure Key and Secure Token. These are your Client ID and Client Secret, respectively. Copy these credentials in Joomla OAuth Plugin configuration on corresponding fields.
  • Login with Vkontakte into Joomla | Vkontakte SSO with Joomla, Client ID and Key
  • On the same page, you will find a field for Authorized Redirect URL which is copied from here. Enter the same value as shown in Joomla OAuth Plugin and then Click on Save.
  • Vkontakte OAuth OpenID Connect with Joomla | Single Sign-On with Joomla using Vkontakte, Redirect URL
  • Now go to the Joomla OAuth Client plugin, under Configure OAuth tab, enter the all the details. Then click on Save Settings and then click on Test Configuration.

    VKontakte Endpoints and Scope:


    Client ID : from the above step
    Client Secret : from the above step
    Scope: openid
    Authorize Endpoint: https://oauth.vk.com/authorize
    Access Token Endpoint: https://oauth.vk.com/access_token
    Get User Info Endpoint: https://api.vk.com/method/users.get?fields=id,name,email,age_range,first_name,gender,last_name,link&access_token=

Attributes Mapping and SSO

  • Once you click on Test Configuration button, You will be able to see the attributes in the Test Configuration output as follows.
  • VKontakte Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Now you have to do Attribute Mapping to perform SSO. Select the attribute name for Email and Username from dropdown. Then click on Save Attribute Mapping button.

  • Now you can use Login / SSO URL to perform SSO.
