Joomla OAuth Client Integration with Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO)


Integration of Connect2id Single Sign-on (Connect2id SSO) with Joomla using OAuth 2.0 Protocol. The miniOrange Joomla OAuth / OpenID Connect Single Sign-on (SSO) plugin makes it simple to set up Connect2id SSO into Joomla and enable secure login into Joomla. As a result, users can log in to Joomla and access the site by authenticating with their Connect2id OAuth Provider credentials.

Pre-requisites : Download And Installation

Setup Connect2id as OAuth Provider with Joomla OAuth Client

Follow the steps given below to setup the Joomla OAuth Client plugin. You can also refer to this Setup video for configuring the plugin.

1. Download and Setup Joomla OAuth Client

  • Download the zip file for the miniOrange OAuth Client plugin for Joomla from the given link.
  • Login into your Joomla site’s administrator console.
  • From left toggle menu, click on System, then under Install section click on Extensions.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Upload the downloaded zip file to install the Joomla OAuth Client plugin.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • After successful installation of plugin, click on Start Using miniOrange OAuth Client plugin button.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Under Configure OAuth tab. Select Connect2id as an OAuth Provider.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Copy the Callback/Redirect URL from Configure OAuth tab of Joomla OAuth Client plugin.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID

2. Configure Connect2id as OAuth Provider

  • Go to https://c2id.net/login and sign up or login.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On SSO into Joomla, Signup
  • Go to Servers tab and then click on New Deployment. Enter Name and Region and click on Deploy. (refer to image below).
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On SSO into Joomla,-New Deployment
  • Go to Clients tab and click on New Registration to create new Client. Enter Redirect/Callback URI which is copied from here. Select grant type and enter additional properties then click on Register.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On SSO into Joomla,-Create new Client
  • Copy generated Client ID and Client Secret and save it on your Joomla OAuth Client plugin Configuration.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On SSO into Joomla,-Client Credentials

3. Integrating Joomla with Connect2id

  • Go back to your Joomla Dashboard. Then go to Components.
  • Now go to the Joomla OAuth Client plugin, under Configure OAuth tab, enter the all the details. Then click on Save Settings and then click on Test Configuration.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • You have successfully completed your Connect2id App OAuth Server side configurations.
  • Client ID : from the above step
    Client Secret : from the above step
    Scope:  openid
    Authorize Endpoint: https://c2id.com/login
    Access Token Endpoint: https://[base-server-url]/token
    Get User Info Endpoint: https://[base-server-url]/userinfo
    Custom redirect URL after logout:[optional] https://c2id.com/logout?id_
    Set Client Credentials: In Both (In Header and In Body)

4. Test SSO and Attribute Mapping

  • Once you click on Test Configuration button, You will be able to see the attributes in the Test Configuration output as follows.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Now you have to do Attribute Mapping to perform SSO. Select the attribute name for Email and Username from dropdown. Then click on Save Attribute Mapping button.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Now you can use Login / SSO URL to perform SSO.
  • Connect2id Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Now logout and go to your Joomla site's pages where you have added this link. You will see a login link where you placed that button. Click on this button to perform SSO.
  • Congratulations, you have successfully configured the miniOrange OAuth Client plugin with your Connect2id OAuth Provider.
