Joomla OAuth Client Integration with Gluu Server Single Sign-On (SSO)


Set up Single Sign-On (SSO) on your Joomla site via Gluu Server OAuth provider with the help of Joomla OAuth & OpenID Connect plugin. Integrating Gluu Server Single Sign-On (SSO) into Joomla using OAuth 2.0 authentication protocol allows your users to securely login into your Joomla websites and applications by authenticating with Gluu Server OAuth provider. Pre-requisites : Download And Installation

Setup Gluu as OAuth Provider with Joomla OAuth Client

1. Download and Setup Joomla OAuth Client

  • Download the zip file for the miniOrange OAuth Client plugin for Joomla.
  • Login into your Joomla site’s administrator console.
  • From left toggle menu, click on System, then under Install section click on Extension.
  • Upload the downloaded zip file to install the Joomla OAuth Client plugin.
  • Installation of the plugin is successful. Now click on Start Using miniOrange OAuth Client plugin.
  • Under Configure OAuth tab. Select Gluu Server as an OAuth Provider.

  • Now copy the Callback / Redirect URL which is needed while configuring Gluu Server as OAuth Server.

2. Configure Gluu Server as OAuth Provider

  • First of all, log into your Gluu account.
  • Navigate to OpenID Connect > Client button.

  • Click on the Add Client button.

  • Enter all the details from Joomla Oauth client plugin and then click on Add button, also add Callback/Redirect URL which is copied from here.

  • Here you will find Client ID and Client Secret for your Gluu application. Copy and paste Client ID & Client Secret in miniOrange’s Joomla OAuth Single Sign On(OAuth Client) plugin.

    3. Integrating Joomla with Gluu Server

    • Go back to your Joomla Dashboard. Then go to Components.
    • Now go to the Joomla OAuth Client plugin, under Configure OAuth tab, enter the all the details. Then click on Save Settings and then click on Test Configuration.

      Gluu Server Endpoints and Scope:
      Scope: openid
      Authorize Endpoint: https://<gluu-server-domain>/oxauth/restv1/authorize
      Access Token Endpoint: https://<gluu-server-domain>/oxauth/restv1/token
      Get User Info Endpoint: https:///<gluu-server-domain>/oxauth/restv1/userinfo
      Custom redirect URL after logout:[optional] https://[hostname]/idp/Authn/oxAuth/logout
      Set Client Credentials: In Both (In Header and In Body)

    4. User Attribute Mapping

    • Once you click on Test Configuration button, You will be able to see the attributes in the Test Configuration output as follows.

    • Now go back to Joomla OAuth Client plugin.
    • Go to the Attribute Mapping section in the plugin and map the Attribute Names from the Test Configuration table. Now enter Group Attribute name on the given field. (Refer to the screenshot)

    5. Role/Group mapping

    • Now go to the Role Mapping tab. Here make sure that Enable Role Mapping is checked. Now assign the Group/Role names to the desired groups in Joomla, then click on Save Role Mapping Settings button.

    6. Login Settings

    • Now you can use Login / SSO URL to perform SSO.

    • Now logout and go to your Joomla site's pages where you have added this link. You will see a login link where you placed that button. Click on this button to perform SSO.
    • Congratulations, you have successfully configured the miniOrange OAuth Client plugin with your Gluu OAuth Provider.
