Joomla OAuth Client Integration with IBM Single Sign-On (SSO)


Integration of IBM Single Sign-on (IBM SSO ) with Joomla using OAuth 2.0 Protocol. As a result, users can log in to Joomla and access the site by authenticating with their IBM identity provider credentials.

Pre-requisites : Download And Installation

Setup IBM as OAuth Provider with Joomla OAuth Client

Follow the steps given below to setup the Joomla OAuth Client plugin. You can also refer to this Setup video for configuring the plugin.

1. Download and Setup Joomla OAuth Client

  • Download the zip file for the miniOrange OAuth Client plugin for Joomla from the given link.
  • Login into your Joomla site’s administrator console.
  • From left toggle menu, click on System, then under Install section click on Extensions.

  • Upload the downloaded zip file to install the Joomla OAuth Client plugin.

  • After successful installation of plugin, click on Start Using miniOrange OAuth Client plugin button.

  • Copy the Callback/Redirect URL from Configure OAuth tab of Joomla OAuth Client plugin.

2. Configure IBM as OAuth Provider

  • Login/Signup to IBM developer portal using IBM developer account.
  • Search and Select App ID service.
  • IBM OAuth SSO with Joomla | IBM Single Sign-On, IBM App goto AppID
  • Select a location and click on Create button.
  • Login with IBM into Joomla | IBM SSO with Joomla, IBM App create AppID
  • Now go to the App ID that you created in last step and go to applications tab. click on add applications to add a new application.

  • Enter the name for your application and click on save button.

  • After saving the application, click on the dropdown icon besides the application, you will find the Client ID, Client Secret and OAuthServerUrl. Save these details as we will be requiring these to configure the miniOrange OAuth client plugin
  • Login with IBM into Joomla | IBM SSO with Joomla, IBM App Client Credentials
  • Now, go to the Authentication settings tab in Manage authentication tab and add the web redirect url which you will get from miniOrange OAuth client plugin in Redirect/Callback URL which you copied from here.
  • IBM OAuth OpenID Connect with Joomla | Single Sign-On with Joomla using IBM, IBM App Add Redirect URL
  • If you don't have the users yet, you can add them by going to Users tab.
  • IBM OAuth SSO with Joomla | IBM Single Sign-On, IBM App Add User

3. Integrating Joomla with IBM

  • Go back to your Joomla Dashboard. Then go to Components.
  • Now go to the Joomla OAuth Client plugin, under Configure OAuth tab, enter the all the details. Then click on Save Settings and then click on Test Configuration.

    IBM Endpoints:

    App Name: IBM
    Authorize Endpoint https://server.oauth.com/mga/sps/oauth/oauth20/authorize
    Access Token Endpoint https://server.oauth.com/mga/sps/oauth/oauth20/token
    Get User Info Endpoint: https://server.oauth.com/mga/sps/oauth/oauth20/userinfo
    Set Client Credentials: In Both (In Header and In Body)

4. Test SSO and Attribute Mapping

  • Once you click on Test Configuration button, You will be able to see the attributes in the Test Configuration output as follows.
  •  IBM Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Now you have to do Attribute Mapping to perform SSO. Select the attribute name for Email and Username from dropdown. Then click on Save Attribute Mapping button.
  •  IBM Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
  • Now you can use Login / SSO URL to perform SSO.
  •  IBM Single Sign-On (SSO) OAuth/OpenID
