Joomla OAuth Client Integration with LinkedIn Single Sign-On (SSO)

Set up Single Sign-On (SSO) on your Joomla site via LinkedIn OAuth provider with the help of Joomla OAuth & OpenID Connect plugin. Pre-requisites : Download And Installation

Setup LinkedIn as OAuth Provider with Joomla OAuth Client

1. Download and Setup Joomla OAuth Client

  • Download the zip file for the miniOrange OAuth Client plugin for Joomla.
  • Login into your Joomla site’s administrator console.
  • From left toggle menu, click on System, then under Install section click on Extension.
  • Upload the downloaded zip file to install the Joomla OAuth Client plugin.
  • Installation of the plugin is successful. Now click on Start Using miniOrange OAuth Client plugin.
  • Under Configure OAuth tab. Select LinkedIn as an OAuth Provider.

  • Now copy the Callback / Redirect URL which is needed while configuring LinkedIn as OAuth Server.

2. Configure Linkedin as OAuth Provider

  • First of all, go to LinkedIn in order to create a new application. Click on Create Application button to create a new application.

  • Enter the required details and click on the Submit button to save your changes.

  • Click on Auth tab to enter details of Joomla OAuth Client.

  • Copy the Client Id and the Client Secret and save it in your miniOrange OAuth Client plugin under Client Id and the Client Secret text fields respectively.

  • Copy the Redirect/ Callback URl from here of Joomla OAuth Clientv plugin and enter it under OAuth 2.0 -> Authorized Redirect URLs textbox. Click on the Add button adjacent to the text box to save it. Finally, click on the Update button to save your configurations.

  • Go to the products tab and select Share on LinkedIn then select Sign in with LinkedIn .

3. Integrating Joomla with LinkedIn

  • Go back to your Joomla Dashboard. Then go to Components.
  • Now go to the Joomla OAuth Client plugin, under Configure OAuth tab, enter the all the details. Then click on Save Settings and then click on Test Configuration.

4. User Attribute Mapping

  • Once you click on Test Configuration button, you will be able to see the attributes in the Test Configuration output as follows.

  • Now go back to Joomla OAuth Client plugin.
  • Go to the Attribute Mapping section in the plugin and map the Attribute Names from the Test Configuration table. Now enter Group Attribute name on the given field. (Refer to the screenshot)

    5. Role/Group mapping

    • Now go to the Role Mapping tab. Here make sure that Enable Role Mapping is checked. Now assign the Group/Role names to the desired groups in Joomla, then click on Save Role Mapping Settings button.

    6. Login Settings

  • Now you can use Login / SSO URL to perform SSO.

  • Now logout and go to your Joomla site's pages where you have added this link. You will see a login link where you placed that button. Click on this button to perform SSO.
  • Congratulations, you have successfully configured the miniOrange OAuth Client plugin with your LinkedIn OAuth Provider.
