Joomla OAuth Client Integration with miniOrange Single Sign-On (SSO)


Integration of miniOrange Single Sign-on (miniOrange SSO) with Joomla using OAuth 2.0 Protocol. The miniOrange Joomla OAuth / OpenID Connect Single Sign-on (SSO) plugin makes it simple to set up miniOrange SSO into Joomla and enable secure login into Joomla. As a result, users can log in to Joomla and access the site by authenticating with their miniOrange OAuth Provider credentials.

Pre-requisites: Download And Installation


  • Login into your Joomla site’s Administrator console.
  • From left toggle menu, click on System, then under Install section click on Extensions.
  • Now click on Or Browse for file button to locate and install the plugin file downloaded earlier.
  • Installation of plugin is successful. Now click on Start Using miniOrange OAuth Server plugin.
  • Under the Configure OAuth tab, click on the ADD button.

Steps to configure miniOrange OAuth SSO into Joomla

1. Configure Callback/Redirect URL

  • After selecting your OAuth provider, you will be redirected to the Step 1 [Redirect URL] tab. Now copy the Callback/Redirect URL which we will use to configure the OAuth Server, then click on the Save & Next button.

  • Login to your miniOrange account.
  • From the left menu, go to Apps Manage Apps.
  • Login with miniOrange into Joomla | miniOrange SSO with Joomla, New Application Creation
  • In the right upper corner, select Add Application. miniOrange OAuth SSO with Joomla | miniOrange Single Sign-On, Configure App
  • Navigate to OAuth/OIDC card, click on Create App. Login with miniOrange into Joomla | miniOrange SSO with Joomla, Add Application
  • Select the Application of your choice. miniOrange OAuth OpenID Connect with Joomla | Single Sign-On with Joomla using miniOrange, Add OAuth Application
  • Now enter the following information as shown below:
    Client Name App name you want to provide.
    Redirect-URL Enter Callback URL-{oauth_client_base_url}/plugins/servlet/oauth/callback from Configure OAuth tab of the plugin

  • For adding the policy for OAuth App, select Group Name as Default and enter the Policy Name of your choice, and select Login Method as Password.

  • Click on save button. Your app has been successfully created.

2. Configure Client ID and Secret

  • Now, go to Apps > Manage Apps > Your app > Select > Edit.

  • You can see all the information for the app like Client ID and Client Secret. Also OAuth endpoints are mentioned, you will require Authorize Endpoint and Access Token Endpoint in further step.
  • Go to the Step 2 [Client ID & Secret] tab of the Joomla OAuth Client plugin, here paste the Client ID, Client Secret and Tenant. Click on the Save Configuration button.

2.1. Scope & Endpoints

    User Info Endpoint:

    Set Client Credentials:
    In Both (In Header and In Body)
  • User Attribute Mapping is mandatory for enabling users to successfully login into Joomla. We will be setting up user profile attributes for Joomla using below settings.
  • Go to Step 3 [Attribute Mapping] tab and click on Test Configuration button.

  • You will be able to see the attributes in the Test Configuration output as follows.

  • Now go to the Step 3 [Attribute Mapping] tab and Select the attribute name for Email and Username from dropdown. Then click on Finish Configuration button.

  • Now go to Step 4 [SSO URL] tab, here copy the Login/SSO URL and add it to your Site by following the given steps.

  • Now logout and go to your Joomla site's pages where you have added this link. You will see a login link where you placed that button. Click on this button to perform SSO.
