Configure Active Directory on Windows Server
Step 1: Install Active Directory Domain Services
Install “Active Directory Domain Services” role through Server Manager roles.
- On you Windows Server Machine, click on Start -> Server Manager -> Add Roles and Features.
- After selecting Add Roles and Features, click on Next.
- Choose Role-based or feature-based installation options and click on Next button.
- Choose Select a server from the server pool option and select the server from the server pool and click on Next button.
- Choose the Active Directory Domain Services option from the list of roles and click on the Next button.
- Click on Add Features from the add features that are required for the Active Directory Domain Services window.
- Choose nothing from the list of features and click on Next button.
- In the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) choose nothing and click on Next button.
- Now, click on the Promote this server to a domain controller option and click on Close button.
Step 2: Configuring the Active Directory
- To configure the Active Directory, select Add a new forest and enter the Root domain name. After entering the details, click on the Next button.
- Enter the Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM) password and then click on the Next button.
- Do not choose anything and leave the default settings and click on the Next button.
- Confirm the NetBIOS domain name and click on the Next button.
- Specify the location of the AD DS database, log files and SYSVOL and then, click on the Next button.
- You can review your selections and click on the Next button.
- Once all the prerequisites are checked, click on the Install button to install the Active Directory Domain Services.
Step 3: Creating Users
- Users can be created in the Active Directory to bind and connect to the Active Directory.
- To create users in the Active Directory, click on Start-> Server Manager -> Tools -> Active Directory Users and Computers.
- On the Active Directory Users and Computers click on Create a new user icon.
- Enter the user details and click on the Next button.
- Enter the Password of the user and click on the Next button.
- Click on Finish once the software has been installed.
