How to set up Remember (Whitelist) IP with the 2-Factor Authentication plugin for WordPress?

The 'Remember (Whitelist) IP' feature allows users to bypass the 2FA (Two-Factor authentication) step on trusted IP addresses. This means that, once a user verifies their identity on an IP, they won’t be asked for the 2FA code again on that same IP. It makes the login process quicker and smoother without compromising security.

Let’s see how an administrator set up Remember (Whitelist) IP for users.

  • Go to the 2FA Configuration tab in the miniOrange 2-Factor Authentication plugin, and then click on the Advanced Features subtab.
  • Select the checkbox to enable the Remember IP option.
  • Remember Whitelist IP Addresses - 2FA Configuration tab

  • Select the radio button to enable the option “Give users an option to ‘Remember (Whitelist)’ their IP”. When this option is enabled, the user has the option to remember (whitelist) their IP address during login.
  • Click on the Save Settings button.
  • Remember Whitelist IP Addresses - click save settings

  • Enter your login credentials and click on the Login button.
  • Remember Whitelist IP Addresses - click save settings

  • Enter the 2FA code generated in the Google Authenticator app. (I have already set up the Google Authenticator method.)
  • Click on the Validate button.
  • Remember Whitelist IP Addresses - click save settings

  • Click on the YES button to Remember (whitelist) the IP.
  • Remember Whitelist IP - click save settings

  • If you want to remember multiple IPs, enable the option Add IPs for 'Whitelisting'.
  • Remember Whitelist IP - click save settings

    Here, we provide two options:

In this option, you can add multiple IPs separated by commas, which means you can whitelist multiple IPs for 2FA at the same time.

    • Select the checkbox to enable Add the IPs you want to whitelist for 2FA.
    • Enter the IPs you want to whitelist for 2FA, separated by commas.
    • Then, click on the Save Settings button.
    • Remember Whitelist IP - click save settings
    • All whitelisted IPs entered will not be prompted for 2FA.

In this option, you can enter an IP range, which means all IPs within that range can be whitelisted for 2FA.

    • Select the checkbox to enable Add range of IPs to whitelist.
    • Enter the IP range and click on the Save Settings button.
    • Remember Whitelist IP - Enter Login credentials
    • All whitelisted IPs within the entered range will not be prompted for 2FA.
