How to Setup Email Verification for WordPress 2-Factor Authentication?

The email verification method for two-factor authentication (2FA) sends a transaction link to the user’s registered email when they attempt to log in to their WordPress account. This email includes options to “Accept” or “Deny” the transaction. Clicking “Accept” allows the login to proceed, while selecting “Deny” blocks it. This ensures that only the registered email owner can authorize access, enhancing security.

Let’s see how an administrator can set up Email Verification for users.

During first login, users are prompted to configure two-factor authentication methods, It includes the Email Verification method, which we will set on the default WordPress login form.

  • Navigate to the Login page and enter the user’s login credentials.

  • Choose the “Email Verification” radio button. You are prompted to configure a two-factor method while logging in for the very first time.

  • The email verification link is sent to your email address registered with the WordPress account.

  • Click on Accept Transaction or you can Deny Transaction if it's not you.

  • The following success window is prompted indicating that your email verification is successful.

    Now, must carefully store the backup codes provided to you. These codes will help you login when you become locked out of your account for any reason.

  • Click on the Finish button to finish it.

  • The user has successfully logged into the account.

  • Once the Email Verification method is setup for your account, an email verification link will be sent to your registered email during your next login. Click Accept Transaction to see the success window prompted indicating that your email verification is successful.

Note: After logging in with a backup code, you will need to reconfigure the Email Verification method for your account.
